Many of the classical painters were called "grisaille" painters, because they began by painting with a single grey. In this way they were able to focus on light and form, and were unconcerned with colour, which they finally applied in very fine glazes. I did the experiment with this painting after learning about it in a treatise on painting by Leonardo. I resolved the whole volume with only a tan earth and white in different shades. I waited several days for the oil to dry and then I began to superimpose coloured glazes on the tawny owl. And there I stayed, not out of laziness, but to preserve the camouflage effect that I happened to have achieved. Many paintings are ruined by overdoing them. But that's the only way to learn, by putting in the miles. Oil on tablex. Manuel Sosa © 1996

True art in the hands and heart A beautiful print. Better in natural. I ordered it as a gift for a bird lover. By mistake they sent me another one and Mr. Sosa was kind enough to give me the wrong one and sent me the one I asked for, so I was able to give a great gift. They are both beautiful. Thank you very much for your generosity. The person who received them is a follower of your paintings and it made him very happy. Thank you very much.
European Turtle Dove I have this painting, and others, a marvel, I have the house with several paintings of Manuel, thrush, woodcock, quail, if the house would be bigger I would have more, thanks Manuel for making these paintings more accessible.
