An elusive Otter rests for a moment in the choppy waters of a mountain river in the wild Spanish Pyrenees. I spent five days camped in this secluded spot, collaborating in a census of this species. I had to remain as motionless and unnoticed as possible for long hours, which allowed me to patiently work on the preliminary canvas of this painting. A playful otter in front of my easel last evening - while I was picking up my brushes - was the reward for such a long wait. The sinuous forms of this beautiful mammal were decisive in the final composition, already in my studio. An 's' runs diagonally across the painting and is repeated in the rocks and the animal, giving rhythm to the work. The otter, always alert, has been painted away from the centre to create tension and force the viewer to travel through the work. Infinite washes of ochre and earth were necessary to achieve the ocelli of light in the water filtering through the willows on that magical autumn afternoon. Oil on canvas. Manuel Sosa © 1997

True art in the hands and heart A beautiful print. Better in natural. I ordered it as a gift for a bird lover. By mistake they sent me another one and Mr. Sosa was kind enough to give me the wrong one and sent me the one I asked for, so I was able to give a great gift. They are both beautiful. Thank you very much for your generosity. The person who received them is a follower of your paintings and it made him very happy. Thank you very much.
European Turtle Dove I have this painting, and others, a marvel, I have the house with several paintings of Manuel, thrush, woodcock, quail, if the house would be bigger I would have more, thanks Manuel for making these paintings more accessible.
I was able to personalise the prints Thank you very much for your help, very professional and approachable. All the best!

ALBA MARÍA ROBLAS MORENO -
I can add little more to what the author has explained. Only that, marvelling, I see the water meandering through the rocks, clear, limpid, and I clearly hear the murmur in its flow. And I feel that certain places do not seem to belong to this world, so immeasurable is its mystery and beauty, but to others, of legend, of ancient tales, feeric, and that, although it seems impossible, following the inscrutable laws that govern them, that otter gave its presence to the artist on purpose as a reward for his work, so that later he, with his generosity, would share it with us and allow us to be there too.
