    ¡Qué soberbio primer plano, maestro! Si en composiciones anteriores nos deleitabas con la dinámica de las huidas o la ternura familiar, aquí apuestas por el retrato psicológico y anatómico puro. Es una pintura que impone respeto absoluto.

    Te atrapa es la mirada del viejo macareno. Ese ojo pequeño, castaño, inteligente y desconfiado, clavado en el espectador, concentra toda la sabiduría y la veteranía de un superviviente de las dehesas y las batidas. La fuerza de la cabeza en tres cuartos es monumental, destacando de forma soberbia las defensas: esos colmillos y amoladeras blanquecinos y afilados que sobresalen del labio con un realismo y un brillo perfectos, testimonios de mil batallas de celo y rascaderos.

    Técnicamente, el lienzo es una lección magistral de texturas. Has huido del fondo detallado para centrar toda la carga plástica en la fiera. Las cerdas duras, ásperas y canas del pelaje, el sutil subpelo más claro que asoma bajo la capa oscura, la piel arrugada en torno al hocico y la tremenda densidad de las orejas erguidas y velludas están resueltas con una precisión de pincelada que casi permite sentir el tacto bronco del animal. La paleta de tonos tierra, ocres y grises plomizos del fondo ensalza la figura del suido, dotándola de una presencia escultórica.
