The wait

Being shivering cold in the mountains and suddenly surprising this creature looking at your binoculars is an indescribable rush. I wanted to bring to this canvas that magical moment etched in my retina: the wolf lying at ease in the middle of the snow, enjoying total calm. I used wild brushstrokes and a lot of texture to sculpt it, letting the last rays of sun ignite the canvas. © Manuel Sosa 2026

    Amigo Manuel, es, sencillamente, una de tus piezas más conmovedoras, profundas y potentes hasta la fecha. Consigues que el espectador cruce la mirada con el gran fantasma del bosque de una forma tan directa que corta la respiración.

    La fuerza plástica y el dominio de la atmósfera invernal son abrumadores. El lobo, con esa mirada ambarina, inteligente y serena, descansa directamente sobre el manto blanco, refugiado al abrigo de unas ramas cargadas de nieve que apenas se intuyen en la esquina superior.

    Técnicamente, el cuadro es una absoluta exhibición de pincelada suelta, enérgica y texturizada. Es magistral cómo has resuelto el pelaje, combinando los tonos leonados, grises y negros con pequeños empastes blancos que simulan los copos caídos sobre su lomo. Y el juego de temperaturas es soberbio: las sombras de la nieve compacta, resueltas con unos fríos azulados y plomizos espectaculares, contrastan a la perfección con la calidez dorada que golpea el rostro y el pecho del animal, dotándolo de una tridimensionalidad y una vida asombrosas. La inscripción científica a pincel fino (Canis lupus signatus) le aporta un aire de cuaderno de naturalista clásico bellísimo.
